Best Things to Do and See in Troyes, France

a row of half-timbered and colorful houses in Troyes, France

Troyes, the city of a thousand colors, is an often overlooked gem of France, but worth a visit for the architecture, churches, museums, food, and champagne (of course). Check out this guide to plan your day or weekend trip to Troyes.

And now that I’ve been exposed and am obviously VERY embarrassed, I think it’s only fair that you tell me what we’d find on your camera roll 😅

💕 Parisian doors, light fixtures, and the Seine were all definite runners-up to the Eiffel Tower for this reel!

📸 What are you snapping pictures of when you walk around? Do you ever take photos of the same spots? What’s something that never gets old for you?

💕 One of my favorite moments of our van road tr 💕 One of my favorite moments of our van road trip in Brittany was seeing the Pink Granite Coast. La Côte de granit rose is a stretch of coastline located in the Côtes-d’Armor department of Bretagne.

In particular, we took our time walking around Ile Renôte. The lighting wasn’t great and it was very windy, but it was still absolutely beautiful and totally worth it!

Traveling with @blacksheepvanbretagne gave us the freedom to stop and explore wherever we wanted! Would you be up for a road trip in France or do you prefer public transport?

A few differences I noticed between school supplie A few differences I noticed between school supplies in the States and school supplies in France:

📁 The folders are so much more sturdy and practical than the 2-pocket folders in 🇺🇸. It looks like nothing will fall out!

🗒 There are a lot more lines on the writing paper in France. It takes some getting used to!

🖌 Growing up in the US, a fountain pen seemed like something fancy that you’d only use for calligraphy but in France, you might see one on your back-to-school supply list. Have you ever used one?

🖍 Fine-tip markers and colored pencils reign supreme. You’ll be hard-pressed to find crayons.

🎒The first backpack that you see in the reel is likely one you recognize. It’s called un sac à dos. The second backpack, which is more in the shape of a messenger bag, but still worn on your back, is called un cartable and is generally used by younger school children. I’ve never seen this type in the US.

I absolutely love school supplies and find it so cool to see what’s available and typically used in France.

What about you? Anything that you noticed or that you have questions about?

Does anyone else feel anxious every time they have Does anyone else feel anxious every time they have an appointment at the préfecture to renew their French residence permit, even if you’re super prepared? Even if you’ve been successful there before?

I’m grateful to be off the hook this year from going to the Paris préfecture. This is the first time in 3 years that I don’t need to apply for a visa or renew my right to stay in France. Currently, I hold a 2-year carte de séjour (residence permit) as the spouse of a French citizen.

If you’re feeling anxious about upcoming appointments and handling paperwork in France as an immigrant, I have tons of free guides, resources, and tips on my blog (link in bio), all based off of my many years of experience in dealing with French bureaucracy.
