9 Tips for Learning a New Language

woman writing in journal with a mug of coffee and a croissant on the table

Language learning is a passion of mine. It’s why I became a French teacher. I began studying French in middle school, immediately fell in love with the language, and knew I wanted to guide others on this same journey.

If you’re interested in learning a new language, check out these practical tips to get your language-learning journey off on the right foot.

“Paris gray” is a whole mood... Fortunately, “Paris gray” is a whole mood...

Fortunately, my mood is far from gray.

Today, I’m thankful for few new restrictions in Paris. That must sound a little funny. Let me explain:

Before the Prime Minister’s press conference yesterday, I wasn’t sure what the next few weeks would look like. I was anxious at the possibility of facing a strict lockdown yet again. Thankfully, that’s not the case (for now).

The 6PM curfew is still in place but we’re able to move freely during the day. A small win, but it’s all relative.

What’s something you’re grateful for today?

Have you ever taken a look at the immigration proc Have you ever taken a look at the immigration process for your home country?

Paperwork, wait times, cost... there’s a lot involved.

As much as I complain about French bureaucracy, I know I have it pretty good here. When we looked into doing it the other way—having Jonathan move to the States—the biggest shock factor was how expensive it would be.

Anyways, the latest news on my end is that in order to renew my carte de séjour as the spouse of a French citizen in the fall, I have to:
• Sign an integration contract
• Demonstrate level A1 French
• Attend 4 civics classes

Currently, I’m working on the last bullet point. One class down, three to go. Read more about the process in my latest blog post, “OFII Integration Contract & Civics Classes.” (Link in bio)

When I was a kid, anytime there was a chance of sn When I was a kid, anytime there was a chance of snow, I used to turn my pajamas inside out and put a spoon under my pillow.
⁣
I helped to secure many a snow day with this method. It even worked a time or two while I was a teacher 😉
⁣
Tomorrow might be a Saturday but I’m still hoping for a snow day (at least in spirit) and with the projected 100% chance of snow in Paris, I think we might see one.
⁣
I’ve never seen Paris in the snow. Have you?

This is a tough one, I know 😅
